Carers Stories

Caring looks different for everyone — but no one should feel they have to navigate it alone.

See how we have been able to help carers from different backgrounds.

If you’d like to submit your caring story, please email marketing@suffolkfamilycarers.org, your story may just help someone else.

Our Carers’ Stories bring together the real experiences of people who support a loved one, friend, or family member every day. These are the voices of those who juggle appointments, manage daily routines, advocate for the person they care for, and often carry the emotional weight of the caring role quietly in the background.

The stories include the experiences of carers supporting partners with dementia, parents supporting adult children with disabilities, and carers stepping into new roles as needs change. These honest reflections highlight both the challenges and the moments of resilience, connection and hope that can emerge along the way.

Whether you’re new to caring or have been in your role for years, we hope these stories offer comfort, inspiration, and the reassurance that you are not alone.

Please note that some of  family carers wished to have their stories anonymised

Listen to a group of parent carers about how our teams have helped with different struggles and been there to give ideas and suggestions when no one else could.

Hear Michael’s Story, about how he struggled with his wife’s diagnosis before he gained support from Suffolk Family Carers. What we managed to do to help him cope better and how funding came through for an electric garage door, giving his wife some independence back.

Watch Debbie’s story as she talks about her own wellbeing struggles with the caring roles she found herself in and how identifying herself as a family carer and our workshops helped her find new ways to cope and manage her wellbeing.
