Suffolk Family Carers is committed to creating and sustaining a positive and inclusive working environment. Our aim is to ensure that everyone is equally valued and respected by our employees and volunteers, and that our organisation is representative of the communities and family carers we support. We will strive to value everyone as an individual – family carers, employees, volunteers, trustees, job applicants and everyone we work with in partnership.

We believe that everyone stands to benefit when we embrace and value the diversity of thoughts, ideas and ways of working that people from different backgrounds, experiences and identities bring. It helps our employees and volunteers to grow and learn, enables them to realise their potential, improves decision-making, boosts engagement and innovation, and enables us to better meet the needs of family carers

Over the past year we have:

• Prioritised diversifying our workforce, particularly in the following areas; Race, age and sex
• Provided all our staff and trustees with Unconscious Bias and Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging training
• Made changes to our website to ensure our information is available in different languages
• Working in partnership with other organisations to reach more family carers in different communities
• Made our recruitment process more inclusive and accessible to a wider audience
• Recruited more men and have more employees who are diagnosed as neurodivergent or who have a disability
• Signed up to the Disability Confident pledge

As an organisation we encourage openness, honesty and direct feedback. We provide feedback training to all new members of staff. Our staff treat each other, the family carers we support and the wider community with integrity and respect.

We will ensure we are accountable to ourselves (trustees, staff and volunteers), family carers, professionals, partners and the wider public. We commit to regularly updating this page with our learning, actions and progress.
