Neurodevelopmental Differences Project

Suffolk Family Carers offer whole family support as part of the Neurodevelopmental Differences Pathway. The pathway is a partnership between healthcare and community organisations combining community & emotional support with medical & diagnostic services.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity refers to the different ways the brain can work and interpret information. It highlights that people naturally think about things differently and have different interests, motivations and strengths. Neurodivergence includes; ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and more.

How to Access Support

You can access support from our Neurodevelopmental Differences Project if your child or young person has been triaged for an assessment for autism or ADHD, or has a diagnosis of autism or ADHD.

Your young person should be aged 0-25 years and registered with a GP surgery in Ipswich & East Suffolk or West Suffolk. To check if your GP surgery is included click here

On receipt of your registration you will receive a welcome email. Out Duty Advisor will contact you by phone, or email if preferred, within 14 days.

One to One Support

Our knowledgeable and experienced staff will listen to you and work alongside you to develop an action plan with agreed next steps, sharing appropriate resources and guidance to support your individual situation.

Our to needs led Intervention can involve working directly with your child or young person, sibling carers or parent carers within the home, school, and community, via phone or video call based upon your preferences. We will work alongside other professionals to make sure your needs are being met.

Parent Carer Drop-In Session

Drop-in sessions for parents/carers offering peer support in an understanding, non-judgemental environment.

We host drop-ins at Claydon and online.

Teen Life

Teen Life is our six-session programme for parents/carers of autistic young people aged 10 to 16 years. The aim of the Teen Life programme is to bring parents together to share information, experiences and ideas in a structured way. Teen Life emphasises the importance of autistic perspectives, with a variety of videos and quotes used throughout the sessions.

Parents can choose to attend the programme with a supporting professional. Our programme empowers parents to understand more about autism.

Topics covered include: Understanding autism and autistic identity, Stress and anxiety, Understanding behaviour, Health and wellbeing, Puberty, Education & Transition to adulthood

Time out for Parents

Time Out For Parents (Autism) Over 4 sessions you will understand more about autism, how it affects your child and how you can work with their unique personality and abilities. You’ll learn about possible strategies to support your child with emotional regulation and sensory processing differences, alongside looking at the value of special interests

Time Out For Parents (ADHD) – Over 4 sessions you will understand more about ADHD and the reasons behind your child’s behaviour. Using practical and proven strategies, you’ll look at key ways of boosting your relationship with your child, raising their self-esteem and using effective strategies.
