Care to Chat Telephone Supporter

Care to Chat Telephone Support Volunteer

You’ll provide regular telephone support to parent carers, providing a listening ear and emotional support. You’ll help them to feel more supported in their caring role, improving their access to information and increasing their awareness of additional support available in their community.

What you’ll be doing:

  • To provide telephone support for parent carers.
  • To signpost and refer parent carers to services offered by Suffolk Family Carers and other support services.
  • To report any wellbeing concerns as appropriate.
  • To record a summary of your conversation on Suffolk Family Carers database.
  • To undertake Safeguarding training and comply with our Safeguarding Policy and report any issues as appropriate.
  • To establish and maintain professional boundaries.
  • To maintain confidentiality in accordance with the organisation’s GDPR policy.
  • To engage in regular supervision sessions

📍 Your own home or our offices in Claydon
⏰ 2-4 hours per week/fortnight at times that suit you

This role suits you if you are: Patient, kind and tactful with a genuine interest in other people. You have good listening skills and an ability to empathise. You’re reliable, non-judgmental, realistic, and are able to cope with emotionally challenging conversations. You understand the need for confidentiality and commit to maintaining it. Experience as a parent carer is preferred however a desire to engage with parent carers and understand the issues they face can be just as important.

  • Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
  • Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
  • Regular support and supervision will be given.
