Talk and Support Telephone Supporter

You’ll provide regular telephone support to family carers, providing a listening ear and emotional support. You’ll help them to feel more supported in their caring role, improving their access to information and increasing their awareness of additional support available in their community.

What you’ll be doing:

• Providing regular telephone support for a family carer/s at an agreed time.
• Informing family carers of services offered by Suffolk Family Carers.
• Signposting family carers to the services of other organisations.
• Referring to the Talk and Support Co-ordinator any concern, change in circumstance or to request additional support from Suffolk Family Carers.
• Maintaining the call record after each call, and return to the office each quarter.
• Developing and promoting a positive telephone relationship with the family carer.
• Establishing and maintaining boundaries in the relationship.
• Complying with our safeguarding policy and reporting any issues as appropriate.

Your own home or our offices in Claydon
1-3 hours per week/fortnight

This role suits you if you are: Patient, kind and tactful with a genuine interest in other people. You have good listening skills and an ability to empathise. You’re reliable, non-judgmental, realistic, and are able to cope with emotionally challenging conversations. You understand the need for confidentiality and commit to maintaining it. Previous experience with family carers is not essential; a desire to engage with family carers and understand the issues they face can be just as important.

• Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
• Regular support and supervision will be given.
