On Monday 6th December Thomas Gainsborough School hosted a celebration lunch for young carers as an end of term treat in recognition of their hard work. The event was planned by the school’s Young Carers Lead and Young Carer Administrators, Mrs T. O’Beirne, Mrs L. Fox and Mrs R. Betts.
The lunch had a fantastic turn out with just under 30 young carers and young adult carers attending the afternoon for some food and Christmas crafts.
Thomas Gainsborough School has been registered with the Suffolk Family Carers schools award since 2015. Over the years TGS have remained engaged and supportive of young carer awareness raising and have continued to do all they can through the adjustments of COVID to support their students.
TGS’s menu of support is just a snippet of the incredible partnership working they have developed over time, including their weekly drop in for young carers and friends in room 209.
We would like to congratulate TGS for achieving Platinum in their schools award which demonstrates the time and care gone into young carer support within the school. We look forward to continuing the joint work in ensuring the young carers have access to the support and guidance they sometimes need.
With special thanks to Mrs O’Beirne, Mrs Fox and Mrs Betts who make a great cohort of support for the young people, to Mrs Pett for capturing some lovely photos on the day and to Mr Copeman who stepped in to help with the celebration.
Thank-you all for your continued support
