Young Carers Wellbeing Residential

Be Your Own Leader Residential Blog
We were very pleased to be one of the chosen charities for the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme in Lowestoft. This was great and has allowed us to host a fantastic respite activity for our Lowestoft Young Carers.

We chose to arrange a residential to give them an overnight break from their caring role and enjoy some time as a group. We combined our Be Your Own Leader wellbeing course with all the fun of a residential. Leadership for Life covers different topics, with a range of activities and videos designed to get the young carers to think about themselves, their futures and how to achieve their goals. The combination of games and skills to change their mindsets and focus on a positive future.

We travelled by train to the lovely residential centre at Darsham where we unpacked bags and chose rooms.  Later in the afternoon we headed to Southwold where we enjoyed an hour crabbing off the harbour. One group discovered the spot that other crabbers were releasing their crabs, so they stuck to this spot and managed to catch loads that had just been released. Genius! Following this we went on the Coastal Voyager speed boat, for a sea blast experience. It was a 30 minute high speed journey out to sea. Although, there were some nervous faces at the beginning, they all seemed to love the experience and wanted to go again! We ended the day with some lovely fish and chips which were delicious.

Thank you for all who voted for us with the Tesco Bags of Help scheme in Lowestoft.
