Young carers were invited to a one night stay at our base in July for a fun camping trip including a delicious BBQ generously donated by Rotarians from the Bury Abbey rotary club.
We enjoyed playing group games together before settling down for a BBQ with the Rotarians. The young carers were also involved in a game of football with both Alan’s, Riley’s goal keeping skills certainly shone through, he was hard to beat!
The evening settled with Fire making, marshmallow toasting and a movie evening with popcorn and hot chocolates.
The next day we tracked the paths to where they filmed the Sainsbury’s Christmas Advert in 2014 and headed back for some cake making and a very long but thrilling game of Uno. Did Pedro win in the end?
As always the young carers were polite, well-behaved and courteous to one another. We are always amazed at how well the children get on with other another especially as they may often come from different localities.
We would like to thank the Bury Abbey Rotary for funding this activity for us which meant our first COVID friendly residential could go ahead. We are always grateful for this joint partnership working and the joy on the children’s faces are a true representation of how important the time away from home is to them.
With special thanks to: Alan B, Jill B, Alan C, Jayne M, Jayne G and of course our BBQ Champions from the base!
In loving memory of Alex Badman who played a key role in organising the BBQs in previous years to our families, Rest in Peace.
