Young Carer Bobby and his family have raised a massive £645.60 for Suffolk Family Carers

During summer 2019, Bobby chose to climb Snowdon with his parents. He wanted to take on this challenge as an event to raise money for the Young Carers service to say thank you for all the help they have given to him. Bobby raised £645.60 to Suffolk Family Carers.

Bobby has been receiving support from our Young Carers team for the past 2 years. He has been a regular attendee of the Woodstowe under 9s group, where he has built firm friendships with the other children.

Bobby is a sibling carer, who when referred to our service was finding it difficult to understand his sisters diagnosis and the impact her condition was having on him and his family. Bobby received one to one intervention from our Adviser, to help him learn strategies to manage his feelings. Following the interventions, Bobby felt confident to start to engage in respite support.

In April 2019 Bobby attended a one night residential with his mum. Together they experienced our ‘Be Your Own Leader’ wellbeing programme that the Young Carers team deliver.

Bobby’s mum said: “It has been really good because we’ve both made new friends. Spending one to one time with each other and having fun. We especially liked the team games and group interaction.” Bobby’s mum feels that through Suffolk Family Carers her son has gained positive thinking around his thoughts and has seen his confidence improve.
