“Such a variety, part of your day in school, maybe delivering an assembly or meeting a young carer and then the afternoon organising a fun activity; the day flys!” Jane, YC Adviser
A day in the life of a young carer Adviser involves completing young carer assessments, meeting with school staff and YC Ambassadors to ensure carers remain a focus within the school community and that the support available is what the young people need and want. Advisers are also available to deliver small group and one to one interventions to individuals who require someone to chat to.
“Our role is rewarding as we get be part of making positive change within a young person’s life.”
Young carer group activities in schools provide opportunities for peer support and new friendships to be formed.
Evenings are busy hosting one of our 11 county wide monthly clubs.
“I love that my days are varied… running a respite club at the end of the day which enables the young people space to have fun, relax and make friends.” Helen, YC Adviser
Our team also design and facilitate wellbeing programmes to carers in Primary and High schools.
“Being a young carers Adviser is like re-living Mary Poppins, you have a bag of endless tricks to support others, an umbrella to protect the rain (challenges) and the wind (team) keeping you uplifted. Although at times we do not see every family we will always return to the ground when needed.”
