Year 6 – Have you started thinking about starting your new school ?

How are you feeling? Nervous? Excited? Sad? Maybe all of these or something else? However you are feeling you are not alone and others will be feeling the same as you.

Ask the YC Lead at your school or get in contact with us to find out about support for Young Carers at the High School you will be attending.

Most importantly, enjoy the last term at your Primary School. Find ways to keep in touch with friends who may be going to a different High School.

The links below take you to some websites young people have found useful to help them to prepare for the next few months.

Are you a parent/carer who is supporting a young person to get ready to move to High school? Here’s some suggestions on how you can support your young person:

  • Practise the journey to school so your young person knows where to go and how long the journey will take.  This will avoid uncertainty on the first day.
  • Explore the school website with your young person.  Many school websites give details of the school day, who’s who, uniform etc.
  • Talk to your young person so they can share their feelings and any questions they may have. Do you remember your first day at High School?
  • Contact the Primary School.  What are they doing to support the transition for your child?

Leaving so soon?

We hope you found what you were looking for, however,
if you didn’t we’d like to still offer you some support.
Please let us know how we can help.
