It’s always difficult to summarise what young carers have been up to in the Summer especially as there are different localities and partnerships offering various things. One thing to mention in this blog is the effort put in by our Young Carer Leads who not only have worked hard with our Schools Award to help raise awareness for young carers during term, but who have also gone above and beyond in their roles to offer young carers an extra treat for the Summer. Below are just a few examples of the hard work put in by young carer leads in the West (and surrounding areas).
- Mrs Bourne at St. Benedicts created young carers at the school activity treats from their cake sale funds which were raised in aid of young carers. The young people were very grateful to be thought about over the summer.
- Katy from Westley Middle jointly hosted a young carers picnic for students at the school, there was plenty of food to go around so staff came and joined in with the event too! The students also received a summer treat pack from their non-school uniform event they held in aid of young carers.
- Miss Smithson jointly hosted a summer treat drop in for young carers at Samuel Ward Academy buying dozens of ice creams for young carers at the school, yumm!
- Miss Mills from Farlingaye High School independently arranged a couple of young carer trips to The Riverside in Woodbridge for a treat from the school, incredible!
Also a shout out to Bury Abbey Rotary who funded a bowling trip at Bury Bowl, Bury St. Edmunds for young carers including pizza, Yummm! The evening was full of friendly competition along with new friendships from new faces from young carers and parents too. The next activity funded by The Bury Abbey Rotary is a Photography workshop in October Half Term. For more information email Sheree sheree.driver@suffolkfamilycarers.org, limited spaces available.
We also had lots of fun with respite opportunities including Camping at Claydon with lots of water involved! Thank-you to all of those who came along and made this summer a memorable one, with new friendships and memories gained we hope you remain in contact with one another and look forward to our Autumn and Festive activities upcoming….. watch this space!
