As part of our work supporting primary schools in West Suffolk, we chose to do something a little bit special to mark the end of the school year.
At Ixworth, St Edmundsbury, Westfield and St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School we did a mix of outdoor games and crafts – some created stunning flower pot cards including real flowers from the school fields.
At Great Heath we used the kitchen facilities for the first time, and made mini pizzas which cooked whilst playing games outside.
Guildhall Feoffment and Forest Academy both created artwork to be used on our new marketing materials, all about being a young carer.
The children at Lakenheath Primary were really treated with a whole afternoon of fun. We played games, made crafts, enjoyed a picnic AND had a visit from Rich from Epic Dad and his ice cream cart! It was the first time all 43 young carers at the school had been together as one group.
Similarly at Tollgate, we went outside and had a Summer party with fresh fruit, hot dogs and ice-cream. One child had strawberries for the first time!
It is amazing to see the bonds these children have made over the past year of accessing a regular group in school, and how the peer support from other children has reduced their isolation within their caring role.
