On 25th July the Lowestoft young carers were able to attend a water sports event at Oulton Broad. The event was kindly funded and put on by the Lowestoft Lions, who invited 40 young carers to take part in an action packed day on the water. The young carers, who were aged between 6-14 were able to have time away from their caring role by trying out Kayaking and Raft Building.
The groups worked together to learn new skills and to have lots of fun. At the end of the sessions the Lowestoft Lions put together an awards ceremony to congratulate all the children for taking part and each of them then received a certificate for them to take home.
Since the activity we have had some amazing feedback about the day with one of the young carers saying
“It was the best day out ever”
and another saying
“ I rarely get to do activities like this due to my brother being unwell, I have had a great time”.
