Our Young Carers and Young Adult Carers service welcome registrations for children and young people aged 4-24 years who have a caring role for a family member which significantly impacts their emotional, physical and/or social wellbeing and development.
On occasion we receive registrations when the child or young person has not been consulted or consented to the registration being made, or the support that they want or need is not detailed within the information shared.
From time to time, we receive registrations where key information is missing which then impacts on the time it takes for our Adviser’s to gather the information prior to making contact with the child or young person.
In response, we have designed a resource to help you to help gather and record the information the child, young person and family wants to share about their family and the caring role of the family members.
This information will then help you to decide what your next steps will be, which may include a registration into our service for a child or young person, or it may be signposting or referrals into support services for adults within the home.
On completing this activity there are 4 potential outcomes:
• No physical or emotional care is being provided by the child or young person. There may be other children or adults in the household that could be providing care and may require support. The child is not presenting with any negative emotional impact due to caring role.
• The child is providing a level of physical or emotional care but taking in to account age, capacity and impact, this is felt to be appropriate, and no additional support is required. The child is presenting with some negative emotional impact due to caring role which is being supported by a trusted adult.
• The child is providing a level of care. The child, and/or family requires some additional support linked to the impact of their caring role.
• The child is providing inappropriate and/or excessive care. A safeguarding referral should be made
