On Thursday 26th November Suffolk Family Carers staff used their lunch and learn* time to come together and share learning around LGBTQ+. The session was following from an in-depth and thought provoking training delivered by the LGBT Foundation organised by Carers Trust.
*Lunch and Learns have been a celebrated offer at Suffolk Family Carers, run by staff and external services. The lunch and learns provide a chance for all staff across teams, to get together and share learning about specific services, topics and training. It provides a great excuse to share our experiences over lunch and check in with one another, which in these times have proven imperative. Before the pandemic each team shared updates and general information at our premises. Since COVID we have been creative in providing these Lunch and Learns as an online alternative and have enjoyed continuing our shared learning.
Below is a recording of one of our lunch and learns’ around the topic of LGBTQ+. The session was delivered by two members of staff who attended the Carers Trust ‘Seldom heard community workshop’.
Please note that some information has been taken directly from the LGBT Foundation training organised by Carers Trust. In delivering the content, staff were made aware this was shared learning to provide a platform of conversation, and future provision.
The outcomes from this session were:
- To offer staff further training on LGBTQ+ seldom herd carers
- Look at our internal monitoring process and start to think about how we ask carers about sexual orientation and the benefits this would bring
