Carers Week 2024 will soon be with us, taking place between 10th & 16th June. This year's theme is ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ to highlight the invaluable contributions of carers across the UK and ensure their voices are heard loud and clear.
Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
The theme of ‘Putting Carers on the Map’ was set to highlight the invaluable contributions of carers across the UK and ensure their voices are heard loud and clear. This was aimed at galvanizing activity in the general election year, and is now more important than ever given the recent election announcement.
Suffolk Family Carers is proud to support the Carers UK Manifesto, lunched in April, and campaign for what family carers want and need, which is wide ranging reform and additional support from whoever forms the next UK Government.
We will again be acting as the co-ordinator for Carers Week across Suffolk in 2024. We work with a wide range of charities and partners to recognise and celebrate the important contribution made by Suffolk’s estimated 65,000 carers.
This year the week will focus on ensuring the voices of family carers are heard by politicians, employers, service providers, educational establishments, journalists and throughout communities. Each day will have a specific feel:
- Monday 10th – Launch of the latest Carers Week research
- Tuesday 11th: Health and social care
- Wednesday 12th: Work and employment
- Thursday 13th: Younger carers
- Friday14th: Older carers
- Saturday 15th: Mental health and wellbeing
- Sunday 16th: Reflections on Carers Week
As ever the campaign will be brought to life by the thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.
