Talk and Support

Having a conversation with someone who will listen and support you can provide great benefit. We can match you with one of our trained volunteers who will call you on a regular basis.

Could you benefit from our telephone support service?

This service is for family carers who are feeling isolated or lonely with a minimal support system, they may be caring for people with little or no conversation, either because they have lost their power of speech or have communication problems or family carers whose caring role is extremely difficult and extra support would be beneficial.

Our trained volunteers are there to listen and talk with you about your caring role, or offer an opportunity to talk about something completely different like your hobbies or interests.  If required they can also signpost you to other relevant services.

Carer's Story: How Talk & Support Helped Me

Here we hear from a Family Carer who has benefited from our Talk and Support Telephone Support Service

“I moved from my home in Hertfordshire to care for her mum who has early onset of vascular dementia. I don’t have local connections as the moment and feel quite isolated. I find caring for my mum frustrating and overwhelming. Due to her Dementia she does not want to receive help from anyone else, only me. I support my mum with dressing/undressing, meals preparation and cooking, laundry, shopping and reminding her to take her medication. My mum has recently been in hospital, which is stressful I also feel under stress moving from my home to move in with my mum.

“I am really valuing the calls from my talk and support volunteer. The calls are really helpful to me, they give me the opportunity to get things ‘out of my head’. I have been exploring with the volunteer, how I encourage my mum to accept more help. Talking with the volunteer has also helped me start organising time for myself and I have now started swimming.”
