So still in Lockdown, getting bored, don’t know what to do?? Maybe start a new hobby, learn a new skill, join a club, or how about all three? Where can I do that I hear you ask, I will tell you, and if it’s good enough for Superman* it’s good enough for anyone!!
The Warhammer club, or currently known as ‘Bolters at the Ready’, is a club made for young carers who like to socialise – but with a focus, have fun – whilst trying to beat your opponent into submission, and learn stuff – even if it is the attack characteristic of a new figure you just got.
B4L (before Lockdown), we met every 3-4 weeks, and spent a few hours either painting, building or battling. AL (after lockdown) this of course has become a little harder. But this weekend we tried to solve this, and had partial success.
The time is 11:45am, the date is Saturday 2nd May, the venue is home. There I was waiting for half a dozen young people, to appear via the comms link (MS Teams), to start a little virtual club. Then the calls and texts started. Tech issues, some caused by human error (mine), some by the computer saying no. To cut a long story, a little shorter, part of the family unit, whilst on their allocated exercise slot and of course sticking to the rules of social distancing (not sure If that would be a problem in the year 40,000), came across what could only be described as ‘Warhammer Gold’. In a skip, sitting all innocently were piles of figures, vehicles, untouched plastic sprues. Taking the initiative they leapt into action and managed to get permission to take them. As fast a White Scar on an assault bike, one of them ran home to get reinforcements. Once the force was back together they gathered the mission objectives and took back to base to catalogue their spoils. Below is a few images taking for clarity.

As true son’s of the Emperor, or loyal subjects of the WAAARGH, they have decided they would spilt some of the spoils with the club. So once we gather again to discuss the best way to neutralise the servants of chaos, or watch as the gore gruntas demolish their enemy, we will have the pleasure of some new additions to forces we have to use.
We will communicate again on Saturday 16th, and hopefully the gods will be kind and we can speak to more of you.
