Having recently become a family carer herself Hayley Hancock, Deputy CEO of Suffolk Family Carers, wanted to search out ways to understand if her experiences were similar, or vastly different to other family carers. Along this journey she found the book “An Extra Pair of Hands: A story of caring and everyday acts of love” by Author Kate Mosse.
Hayley said “I found this book to be so empathetic and described the position I found myself in. Although the conditions being cared for were different to my own the situation the real life experiences of Kate were so familiar. Maybe it was because this it was personal but reading how life changes when you become a family carer has somehow helped me on this journey, and even impacted the way I support family carers in my day to day role at Suffolk Family Carers”
Since reading the book Hayley has been in contact with Kate, who sends a personal message to family carers in Suffolk this Carers Week.
