Last week at Central club in Ipswich, our young carers group embarked on an out-of-this-world activity that brought out both creativity and fun – decorating biscuits with a space theme! It was an evening filled with laughter, imagination, and a whole lot of icing and sprinkles.
Everyone was very excited as everyone gathered around to begin our biscuit decorating adventure. We had a variety of biscuits ready for decoration – from round, perfect “planets” to chocolate digestives.
The goal was to take these plain biscuits and transform them into cosmic works of art. We set out an assortment of colourful icing, edible chocolate stars, sprinkles, and smarties. From shooting stars to galaxies swirling in pink and blue icing, the possibilities were endless.
Creativity Takes Flight
As everyone got to work, the designs started to take shape. Some of the young carers went for bold, colourful planets with dark and bold icing choices, whilst others carefully created their own version of the Milky Way using a sprinkle of edible stars. It was clear that our young carers have incredible imaginations and a love for all things space-related.
There was so much joy in the room as they decorated their biscuits with such enthusiasm. It wasn’t just about the end result; it was the process of creating something unique that made the experience so special.
The young carers really enjoyed the chance to let loose and express themselves without any pressure. For many of them, it was an opportunity to relax and have some fun after a busy week. It was also a fantastic way to bond as a group.
A Sweet Ending
At the end of the activity, everyone had a beautifully decorated biscuit (or several) to take home, making it a sweet treat to enjoy after club.
This activity was a wonderful reminder of how small moments like this can make a big difference in creating a supportive, positive environment for young carers. It’s easy to forget the importance of having fun and taking time for yourself, and this space-themed biscuit decorating was the perfect opportunity for our group to do just that.
We can’t wait to plan our next creative activity, and we hope the kids enjoyed this one as much as we did.
