Suffolk Community Foundation have now launched their Surviving Winter Appeal for 2024. This aims to provide vital funds to help vulnerable older people stay warm and well when the cold weather hits.
This year the Surviving Winter appeal has taken on even more importance as an estimated 90% of older people living in the county are due to lose the winter fuel payment following changes to government policy.
If you need support to heat your home this winter you can apply to one of the three charity partners working with Suffolk Community Foundation. You must meet the following criteria:
- Are aged over 66
- Do not receive pension credit
- Have a maximum income £20k individual and £24k couple
- Have maximum savings £5,000
- Live in Suffolk

Donating to the appeal
The campaign is now in its 14th year and has provided a lifeline for many thousands of people by helping them to stay safe and healthy in their own homes as the weather turns colder.
As a result of the changes to government policy the need for support is even greater than ever. Many older people are extremely anxious about the high cost of energy and are having to make difficult choices between heating and eating every single day. We are therefore appealing to anyone who feels able to donate to consider doing so and help make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
