Fourteen Young Carers attended a two night and three day residential at Suffolk Cabins.
They all took part in a Leadership for Life course which encouraged them to look at leading themselves, and developing their leadership skills; including topics of finance and project development. As well as the residential they are putting their skills to practise and are all working towards redesigning and reproducing resources to promote Suffolk Family Carers.
The course aimed to encourage Young Carers to think and act like a leader referring back to the 7 leadership mindsets, which they all “enjoyed” repeating throughout the course! They got stuck in with den building, team challenges, fire making and playing fun games.
Here are some of the quotes from our Young Carers:
“Over the residential, I’ve gained skills in leadership and working together in a team to work on a group project. From the last few days, I feel as if I am more confident and a stronger leader than I was at the start of this residential.”
“At the residential you don’t only get a chance to meet new people, you get to think positively about yourself and find new things you didn’t know you could do.”
“Over the residential, I have gained new friends and I have gained new leadership skills. Being here has taught me how to lead a team and to listen to everyone in the team.”
We would like to thank all of our Young Carers for their fantastic enthusiasm and contribution in making this residential a memorable one. We would also like to thank Tom who has accommodated us for the past two years.
