On 6th April our Ipswich based 13+ Club worked alongside Charlie (Kick-start Communications Assistant Suffolk County Council) who is currently working on a research project on how the County Council can better communicate and engage with the young people of Suffolk. Charlie was really impressed by the honest and insightful feedback provided. Charlie will keep the group informed as to the changes their feedback may influence.
We have sought feedback from young carers across the county to gain their opinions of what should be considered for inclusion in the new Suffolk all age Carers Strategy to be launched later this year. Along with their peers, our 13+ group also shared their ideas. Common opinions we have heard from young carers include the value of spaces for young carers to get together and meet others with shared experiences.
“Young Carers activities give me time to be myself”
“I now have friends with situations similar to mine so we feel less alone”
Young carers also agreed that it was important that the strategy included having someone to talk to as this was key to maintaining their wellbeing and reducing stress.
“It would make a big difference. I would feel happier”.
The group also had some free time, in between making microwave cup cakes (surprisingly good), and creating some art work for our office space at Claydon.
“It was my first time at Club but it didn’t feel like it”.
