Congratulations to Thomas Gainsborough School and their Young Carer Leads, Rosie Cockett and Andrea Campbell on achieving their gold school award. Our School’s Award is designed to help schools work in partnership with our service to improve identification and support to young carers by:
- Identifying a member of staff responsible for young carers
- Liaising with staff and young carers to identify the support they would like from their school/college and our service
- Facilitate young carer awareness raising sessions to pupils and staff via assemblies, PSHE lessons, CPD
- Develop network groups to develop communication and share best practice between settings
- Facilitate a range of wellbeing programmes
There is growing evidence that when young carers are identified and offered appropriate support in schools, their emotional wellbeing and educational and employment outcomes will improve.
