Local Authority Assurance Assessment
CQC are assessing Suffolk Council Council against how they carry out their functions relating to part 1 of the Care Act (2014). This relates to how local authorities support people receiving adult social care services, including assessments, funding and supporting people.
Under the Care Act, Local Authorities have a legal obligation to ensure unpaid family carers receive an assessment, and to provide support for their caring role. As part of the Suffolk County Council assessment CQC needs to understand how it supports unpaid family carers.
During the pilot assessments carried out in late 2023 CQC identified the importance of family carers being able to share their journey with them on an individual basis as each carers journey is specific to their needs.

CQC will be using Experts by Experience to make telephone calls to family carers during the week of 10th November 2025 to gain an in-depth understanding of their carers journey. CQC know Experts by Experience understand family carers and can take the time to speak with individuals about their experience.
