Admission Support

1. Your college/sixth form will have support in place for you, so make the most of it and ask for some support.

2. UCAS is always a good website to look through, they have lots of advice and articles to help with admissions

3. Your YAC adviser can also assist with completing forms or similar.

Financial Support

Finances can feel overwhelming, but do not worry there is support out there for you to access to make the process simpler.

1. Check out the University website, they will have finance advice.

2. Use your careers adviser at college/sixth form.

3. Adviser support to complete forms.

Travel to Open Days

Visiting a University before applying is advised, it will give you a feel for the city, the campus and the subject that you want to study. Universities host open days throughout the year, but I understand that this can be tricky when caring for a family member. Maybe you do not have transport to get yourself there and public transport is no affordable. Please check the university website as they do have funding to support perspective students attending open days. UEA in Norwich for example, it states on its website that you are eligible for support if you are a Young Adult Carer.

Adviser Support

Your YAC adviser is also available to support through this process, if not with the physical filling out of forms, but also for emotional support of the thought and then actually leaving your cared for and moving to a university. We are here to help you cope with the transition and support you through it. Just get in contact with your adviser to start the conversation.

Leaving so soon?
