Suffolk Family Carers took 20 young carers away last week to Bawdsey Manor for a 2 night residential. The children arrived excited but with some nervous about staying away for the first time.
On the first day the children unpacked and got straight into the activities by doing the obstacle course and buggy building. The young carers worked together as a team during the first day and developed friendships throughout. We then finished with a campfire where they got to sing songs around the fire and toast marshmallows.
After a well needed sleep the children got stuck in with more activities on the Tuesday. They got the opportunity to take part in Fencing, Raft Building, Sensory Trail and Zipwire. Some of the children faced their fears and others found activities that they wanted to do again. One child said “Fencing was my favourite activity and I would love to join a fencing club”.
On the Final day we packed up our bags, the children realised that we still had a full day of activities to enjoy with their new friends that they had formed over the last couple of days. The children took part in Survivor, Giant Swing, Tripeze and Archery as their final activities. One child said “I have had the best time and I am so proud that I stayed away from home.
