On Friday 16th August we took 20 Young Carers to PGL Bawdsey for an activity weekend.
Our trip was generously funded by “The Rotary Club of Felixstowe” for the second year running – we would like to send a massive thank you from us all at Suffolk Family Carers and our Young Carers, for the opportunity to take part in such an amazing weekend, full of fun and making lots of lovely memories!
Day 1 – our Young Carers took part in Archery Tag, Giant Swing and a PGL Games Tournament.
Day 2 – Zip Wire, Challenge Course, Canoeing and PGL Survivor (den building and fire lighting)
Day 3 – Problem Solving and Climbing for the morning, before being picked up by parents early afternoon.
During the weekend we asked some of our Young Carers how they felt…
“I was really nervous when I arrived, but I’m so pleased I stayed because I made friends really quickly and I liked going on the Giant Swing, even though it was really scary!”
“I didn’t want to leave my Mum when I got there because I didn’t know anyone else, but I’m so glad I did because we had so much fun canoeing and I got to make some new friends.”
Since the residential we have had some great feedback from a couple of young carer’s parents as well.
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for inviting X to PGL, she loved it so much. X, won’t stop talking about how much she loved it!”
“Just to say thank you for having X at camp, she really did enjoy herself and talked about it non-stop on our way home, telling us about everything she did!”
