“Men Walking and Talking run mental health walks, with the aim of bringing men together in a safe space to end the stigma around men’s mental health by supporting each other.”
We are delighted to let our male family carers know that the first Suffolk branch of a ‘Men Walking and Talking Group’ is set to begin soon in Stowupland, Stowmarket. The group is open to all men, including people being cared for.
The weekly walk will take place on Tuesday evenings, walking and talking around Stowupland, and possibly further afield as things develop.
The walk will be led by mental health counsellor, Tom Huber, who has worked in mental health since 2008 and is keen to help others in a less structured environment where men can both exercise and support each other. Talking is optional and people are encouraged to talk as they feel comfortable to, or not! Tom says “There will be no expectations. People don’t have to talk – they can just be present and take the time they need. If people just want to get out of the house for an hour, that’s not a bad thing. There are no expectations as to how much people talk or disclose.”
The group will meet each Tuesday evening at 7pm for an hour’s walk. It is open to any man over the age of 18.
Please contact Tom directly if you would like to join the group or pass this information on to someone you think may benefit from joining the group. Tel: 07572 924434 or Email: tom-huber@hotmail.co.uk
