This year armed forces day falls on Saturday 29th June 2024, and Suffolk Family Carers is delighted to strengthen its support for family carers in the armed forces community with the delivery of tailored workshops funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
The four session for Armed Forces are based on Feeling Stronger To Care & Connect and will:
- Explore the impact of stress upon the family carer, and identify and choose strategies to build resilience.
- Explore self-help and resources to improve physical and mental health
- Increase awareness of Family Carer rights sources of support and resources
- Explore ways to connect with community resources and support
Suffolk Family Carers services are open to any family carer, but we are particularly proud that our work with the local armed forces community recognises that there are some very specific needs within the Armed Forces community such as isolation, frequent relocation and the uncertainty that can accompany deployment.
Sarah Potter, Mental Health & Wellbeing Service Manager said- ‘This funding provides us with an exciting addition to our support services for our local UK armed forces community who have additional pressures on the caring roles within their families and so our workshops will be there to support them ’
It’s important that the sessions deliver the information that family carers from armed forces community need so our team will be going out to station coffee mornings, attending veteran’s breakfasts and other military events to ensure that everyone has a chance to express their ideas about what we should include alongside the general information.
Our learning from this work will be shared at a national level and we are grateful to the funders and to those that are supporting the project in a variety of ways.
