Our Neurodevelopmental Differences project is now supporting families who have a child or young person (under 25) with a neurodevelopmental difference. Importantly, there does not need to be a diagnosis for you to access this support.
The team, led by Michelle, is here to support the whole family and to work with you to resolve concerns that you may have as a result of your child or young person’s neurodiversity. Michelle is joined by ND Families advisors Angela, Christine, Katie and Wendy. Between them they have a range of experiences across health, social care and education, as well as personal experience of being parent carers of children with additional needs.
This team of families advisors work across east and west Suffolk to offer one to one support. This is normally short term, designed to help you focus on making progress with a key issue or concern that will make a big difference to your family life. The support is available in a variety of different ways, designed to suit you and your family’s unique circumstances. Examples include phone appointments, face to face meetings (either in your home or at a community venue or carer support group of your choice) and information and advice via email. We are willing to work with you to meet your needs. We also work with all members of your family, whether that be the neurodiverse young person themselves, their parents, sibling carers and even wider family members.
In addition to the one to one support, the team also provide the following:
- Parent carer drop in groups offering peer support
- Whole family activities to provide a safe space for family time.
- Parent support programmes and workshops to build parental confidence and relieve isolation.
- Monthly updates signposting you to relevant resources, groups and programmes.
