At Suffolk Family Carers we decided to turn the day into a whole weeks celebration! A week of recognising how valuable our young carers are and what a great job they do. The focus this year was infant young carers under the age of nine.
Assemblies took place at several schools all over Suffolk, raising awareness of young carers, including Melton Primary, Rushmere Hall, Sidegate, Chilton, Combs Ford, Farlingaye, Claydon and Houldsworth Valley.
Melton primary and Chilton primary gained their Silver Schools Award that week. Kesgrave High were presented their Gold Award by town and district councillor Stuart Lawson.
Over 100 young carers had fun drinking hot chocolate on the Suffolk Family Carers bus – the excitement was uncontrollable, squirty cream and marshmellows everywhere! The bus also managed a coastal trip to Lowestoft visiting Kessingland and Dell primary and E.P.A and Ormiston Denes High.
We were very proud of our young carers – at Sidegate and Chilton, young carers were involved with presenting an assembly to their school.
At Kesgrave High, young carers organised a spectacular cake sale, non uniform day, raising money for young carers.
Farlingaye were wearing silly socks as a way of raising awareness of young carers as well as selling friendship bracelets.
The day would not be complete without a fun ‘playtime’ with our under 9’s. Billy Beez welcomed 25 under 9’s with some of their parents.
