Thanks to Carers Trust TIME FOR ME funding, we were able to facilitate Young Carers –Into The Wild sessions at the Gold Crest outdoor area in Beccles.
We are fortunate within our team to have qualified instructors who can safely help the participants learn outdoor craft and cooking skills. The participants were able to choose what activities they wanted to try plus have time to explore the forest area (carefully navigating their way around the Badger set). The timing of the evening sessions in May were very helpful to one participant who is currently sitting her G.C.S.E’s, “I’ve been inside all day with one exam and I’ve got Maths tomorrow but I needed a break so came along this evening”.
The eight Young Carers who attended the sessions did not know each other prior to the sessions but bonded really well as a group. Preparing and then cooking their own campfire food provided lots of laughs as they questioned if their food was ‘edible’.

The TIME FOR ME funding has enabled our service to host interest led activities and workshops which was in response to carers aged 11+ telling us this was the respite they wanted. So far we have hosted:
- Creative writing workshops
- Introduction to Dungeons & Dragons
- Gym & Wellbeing sessions
- Swimming confidence programme for cares aged 11-15 years
- Online cookery skills
- Girls Friendship group
To complete this funding we are hosting online British Sign Language taster sessions in June.
