Over the past 7 weeks the Young Carers team have had the pleasure of working with a group of ‘Girls’ talking about all things ‘female’. The initiative came from 1:1 sessions with an increasing need of peer support so we drew the sessions together to enable young carers to support one another. The 7 sessions were online with a face to face treat during half term. Within half term the girls got to create their own dessert challenge, take part in a charity shop challenge and best of all chill in their comfies’ and watch Netflix! Below are some snippets of the feedback we received:

If you had to sum Girls Group into a quote what would it be?
‘’Fun is Girl.’’
‘’Fun, caring, enjoying, increasing confidence’’
‘’All things female!’’
‘’Have fun…lots of it!’’
‘’Good friends are like stars, you do not always see them but you know they are always there’’
‘’Love your flaws, own your quirks!’’
What have you gained from Girls Group?
8 out of 10 participants (2 were not present during feedback) said the Girls Group has…
– Increased their confidence
‘’I would have never had the confidence to talk to my friends about things, but joining this group has taught me that all girls have struggles and we should feel okay by talking about it’’
– enabled them to make new friends
‘’I was made to feel very welcome and enjoyed making new friends’’
– taught them new things
‘’I have learnt a lot about periods that I didn’t know before’’
‘’I have learnt to be confident and body image doesn’t matter!’’
