Time has passed since her stint on the reality show; giving Ipswich’s Jade a chance to use her writing talents – which she has perfected since she was 15 – and vocal skills to produce her debut album to the delight of long-term supporters and new listeners.
Jade, who has recently become a friend of Suffolk Family Carers, has been very kind in giving us an exclusive sneak preview of 20SIXTY which is officially released on April 20th.
What strikes the listener when they first hit play on the album is that this record was written and sang by someone who has grown up radically since her TV appearances – her soulful voice simply glides over the instruments in the background; harking back to 1960s blue-eyed soul of Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark.
However, this shouldn’t lead the listener to think every song is drawing influence from the 60s. Jade’s diverse vocal range enables her to take the listener back through the decades before drastically bringing them back to more modern pop and it’s clear to see she’s influenced by British pop superstars such as Duffy, Paloma Faith and the late Amy Winehouse.
The stand out track on 20SIXTY is ‘Hold Me’ – a rigorous combination of deep soulful music and smart, bouncy pop. Hold Me perfectly encapsulates the artist that is Jade Mayjean – someone who will always remember her time on the Voice fondly but who is desperate to show off her writing and vocal skills that make her such an exciting prospect in modern pop music.
