“Elvis has left the building………”

Last week young carers got up onto a stage and performed in front of the families.  Some had never performed in front of anyone before, and some played instruments they had only been learning for the 3 weeks.

“Since coming to this group C has grown in confidence, made new friends and learnt to play his ukulele, which has really pleased him.  It has helped him branch out from us, which he has found hard up until now.” (from a parent of a young carer)

The gig held at the Smokehouse in Ipswich, part of South Street Studios, was the culmination of 3 weekly sessions where the young carers explored a wide range of instruments & technology and also learnt new skills including presenting a radio show.

The sessions were made possible by funding from Activities Unlimited, and facilitated by WIKIDmusic and South Street Studios. Thanks to Jay, John, Bruce and the rest of the crew.

“H has enjoyed being a rock star.  Great experience wouldn’t normally get.  H has really enjoyed it. It was great to watch everyone get on and for all the staff to be so supportive and encouraging.” (from a parent of a young carer)
