We recently completed a Be Your Own Best Friend course at East Point Academy. This is a course that we run for schools who identify young carers who are struggling with their self-confidence and Self-Esteem. We ran the course in two, two-hour sessions. We look to help the young carers with their self-awareness, look to build confident and self-esteem, we look at building healthy relationships and reducing negative self-talk. This is done through worksheets and games. We noticed that there was a theme running through the course as the young carers told us at the start what they wanted to get out of the course and the majority of the young carers felt that they lacked confidence in certain areas of their lives and wanted support to improve that.
We had some great feedback from this course. Someone told us they were pleased that they ‘got to interact with people that they do not usually get to interact with’ and ‘I enjoyed that I could express myself in a positive way’
Be Your Own Best Friend is a course that is open to all Secondary schools for a small donation. If you are interested in this, why don’t you chat to your YC lead at school or your YC advisor via Instagram.
