Ask your MP to support amendments to the Health Bill

The Health Bill currently protects existing carers’ rights to be involved with health bodies. However, crucially the Bill has the potential to transform the lives of unpaid carers, who provide the bulk of care in England. This is why we are supporting Carers UK’s national campaign to engage with local MP’s in an effort to have them support amendments

This is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to ensure that millions of unpaid family carers gain stronger legal protections and meaningful support from the NHS in England. However, this depends on your MP supporting the key amendments that Carers UK want Government to include in the Bill:

  • A right to a break for unpaid carers
  • New duties on the NHS to identify unpaid family carers, promote their health and wellbeing, and provide them with information and advice
  • Ensuring unpaid carers have access to the Single Patient Record for the person they care for and that carers’ feedback and complaints on services get acted on

To help you Carers UK have drafted a suggested letter for you to send to your MP. Please personalise the template letter if you can. MPs are far more likely to respond to personalised messages..
