2018/19 has been a year of achievement for us. Winning the GSK Award was the biggest achievement for us to date.
On Wednesday 20th November 2019, we invited family carers and other organisations to attend our AGM, where we gave information on what we have been up to in 2018/19. Amongst the attendees was Lt. Col. (Retd) WR Silk MBE, Station Staff Officer, Wattisham Flying Station, Attack Helicopter Force, who talked about how he came across Suffolk Family Carers and the Suffolk Serving Families Project, and how this is raising awareness and understanding of family carers and their roles within the Armed Forces community.
We also invited adult carer, Bev Young, and young adult carer, Chenille Greaves-Williams, to talk about their caring roles and how Suffolk Family Carers has helped them. Bev, who is now a volunteer for us through our Talk and Support service, talked about her past caring role and how she became a volunteer. Chenille uses our young people’s services to allow her to have some time away from her caring role through respite activities. Both speeches were incredibly moving and not only highlighted the valuable support that we provide, but also how this support can evolve for the future.
During the AGM, we also welcomed two new trustees, Jane Farthing and Ann Hogarth, who will both be valuable additions to our Trustee Board. Don McElhinney stood down from the Board as trustee. He had served on the Board for 9 years, and was thanked for his very valuable contribution over that time.
