Scam Corner – Beware of Fake Emails & Text

This month on Scam Corner we wanted to make you aware of four of the most common scam emails and text currently doing the rounds.

Google Cloud Email

This scam email claims that your Google Cloud account has been locked, that your payment method is no longer valid and services have been suspended.

The email is fake, sent by fraudsters that want to steal your personal and financial information or install malware on your device.

If you see this email please delete it

Amazon Prime Renewal Email

The fake Amazon Prime renewal email claims that you method of payment could not be processed and that you need to update your Amazon Prime account with new information to keep your subscription active.

The email is fake, sent by fraudsters that want to steal your login credentials, personal and financial information or install malware on your device.

If you see this email please delete it

Disney+ Subscription Email

The fake Disney+ email claims that payment has not been received for your subscription. The link within the email leads to a convincing looking website where you are asked to login to your account. This leads to another page where you are asked to enter new payment details..

A quick tap on the sender’s address also instantly reveals the email is not from a Disney email address.

RingGo Overstayed Your Parking Text

This text text message targets drivers by pretending to be from RingGo. and usually claims that you have an “outstanding parking payment” or an “unpaid parking session.”. You can look for the warning signs

  • RingGo will never text you from a generic or personal email address
  • Look closely at the web link. Fake links will not point to their official website.
  • The text might ask you to reply with a letter like “Y” or tell you to copy a link into your internet browser (Safari or Chrome) to activate it. RingGo will never ask you to do this.
  • If you are ever unsure about a payment, you can safely check your official account at any time:

What to do if you have receive one of these emails or texts

If you’ve lost money or provided personal information as a result of a phishing scam, notify your bank immediately and report it to Report Fraud.

You can report scam emails to report@phishing.gov.uk and malicious websites to the National Cyber Security Centre.

You can forward text messages to 7726.
