Carers Active April 2024

Carers Active is an annual event run by Carers UK which aims to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity for family carers and highlight the benefits of moving more.

At Suffolk Family Carers we want to support family carers increase their activity levels and improve their health and wellbeing. Not only can being more active reduce the risk of developing health conditions in the future, it can also improve mental wellbeing by reducing stress and loneliness and providing time to recharge.

During the month Carers UK will provide lots of opportunities for carers to be active and supported and encouraged to take part in any activity that works for you, whether that’s walking, jogging, yoga or simple exercises around your home and garden.

By signing up to Carers Active April you’ll receive:

  • Details of the Weekly online physical activity sessions taking place throughout April.
  • An invitation to our free virtual Healthathon event on 26 April.
  • Helpful ideas, tips and links during the month.

Each week of the campaign is e themed, making sure it covers a range of activity ideas that can bring varied advice and information to those who really need flexibility within their routine.

Week one: Active living with a long term health condition
Week two: Embracing the outdoors
Week three: Movement and mental wellbeing
Week four: Sport and leisure clubs in your area

During the campaign, Carers UK is also encouraging a mass action day, “We Move More”. This will be taking place on Thursday 11 April so keep an eye out for a local walk/run/cycle event near you. The aim is to bring lots of carers together to be active on the same day.
