Funded Respite Options

At Suffolk Family Carers we have certain funded provisions which allow some family carers to take the break they need, or assists when  you as the family carer needs a planned hospital stay or medical procedure.

It’s important to take a break from caring if you need one.

I have a medical procedure and hospital appointment coming up...

What will happen to the person I care for? We don't have any other support.

Respite on Prescription may provide funding to help pay for replacement care whilst you are away for planned medical procedure, appointment or treatment.

Please talk to your GP, who can refer you to Suffolk Family Carers. Alternatively contact The Hub  more details. If longer term respite is required this can be referred to Suffolk County Council to see if you are eligible for additional funding.

Please note that Respite on Prescription is not an emergency service. We can only accept referrals from your GP.

Funding is currently not available in the area covered by Norfolk & Waveney ICB.

Do you care for someone with a neurological condition?

Do you feel it may be time to take some time out, but are unsure where to go for support?

If you provide complex and significant care for someone with a neurological condition, you may be eligible for funding through the Neurological Care Breaks Scheme (NCBS), subject to meeting the eligibility criteria. The funding is to go towards replacement care to allow you to have a break.

Examples of the neurological conditions covered include the following. This is not an exhaustive list and other neurological conditions are considered.

  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Motor Neurone Disease

The scheme supports family carers who provide complex and significant care for someone living with a neurological condition. We recognise that every caring situation is different, so to help us better understand your circumstances when determining eligibility please provide as much detail as possible on your application form.

Please note that due to increased demand over recent years some revisions have been made to eligibility to help ensure equal opportunities for family carers who have not accessed the scheme in the past.

How to apply

Complete our application form and a member of our team will be in touch. If you need help to complete the form, or require the form in another format please contact us.

All family carers must complete the NCBS application, including those who may have received funding in the past.

We are sorry but funding is currently not available in the Waveney area.  Other organisations provide different funded support for people with dementia and their families e.g. Shaftesbury Suffolk . For learning disabilities, please see here for information on what support might be available.

Leaving so soon?

We hope you found what you were looking for, however,
if you didn’t we’d like to still offer you some support.
Please let us know how we can help.
