Thorpe Woodlands

During half term we had the pleasure of taking 15 young carers to Thorpe woodlands for a day filled with fun activities. We were hopeful Boris didn’t make an announcement prior so we could continue with our face to face offer… and luckily he didn’t!

We managed to squeeze in Archery, Abseiling, Rock Climbing, Team challenges and canoeing!

Below are some of the comments from our young carers about the day:

‘’ It was very fun and I have learnt a lot from it’’

‘’The best part was when I jumped from the wooden platform, I didn’t think I could do it but was so glad I did and wanted to go on it again and again!’’

We asked the young carers how this activity had helped their caring role and below is what they said:

  • I had fun
  • I have power
  • My confidence has risen
  • Made me not scared of heights and better confidence
  • I learned more safety
  • I helped others
  • I can help
  • It’s a break
  • It made me a bit more confident
  • It gave me a break
  • It gave me a break away from home
  • It gives me time away
  • Gives me a break
  • Helped my confidence
  • It helped my confidence

14 out of 15 young carers all said their confidence had grown from the start of the session to the end of their day.

15 out of 15 young carers all took something away from the day including: making new friends, having fun, having a break from their caring role, and learning new things

We’d like to take the time to thank Joe and Tom from Thorpe Woodlands for creating a memorable day for our young carers despite the times. The energy and care you put into our day provided us with a day to remember.  We’d also like to thank the young carers who came along to the day, you were all very adhering to the adjusted fun to make the day safe and showed brilliant enthusiasm, Here’s to more activities like this one!
